Meet Our Pastor
Since the organization of Fletcher
Chapel as the Fletcher Presbyterian
Church in 1994, George has served as
our Pastor. He and his wife Sally
are a vital part of our faith community.
They make their home just off the
campus of Lees-McRae College where
George served as College Chaplain
before his retirement. “I flunked
retirement!” George says.
George is a graduate of Davidson
College and Louisville Presbyterian
Seminary. His pastorates have been in
Georgia and Arkansas, the first as
Minister to Students at the University of
Georgia and then as pastor of two congregations in college communities in
Arkansas. He served as a Campus Minister at the University of Arkansas (Go Hogs!)
from 1960 to 1973 when he took a higher education post with the Presbyterian
Church, U.S., in Atlanta.
George came to Avery County in 1991 to serve the Newland Church, at
which time he came to us at Fletcher, to begin what he calls a case of “love at first
sight.”
